Perfectly Imperfect
A big problem, especially among girls, is feeling the need to be the definition of perfect. According to ANAD, “ Women are much more likely than men to develop an eating disorder. Only an estimated 5 to 15 percent of people with anorexia or bulimia are male.” Data shows that more women are diagnosed with eating disorders than men. Social media, people making comments, and always feeling the need to look good are major problems that affect girls everyday. People can not stress how important this problem is. Even girls without an eating disorder still go through a lot of the same things they do. Starting from looking good, having good hair, clear skin, name brand clothes, etc. Not everyone will be able to be nice 24/7. No, not even you are nice all the time. A lot of people have their days and can be mean. This does not mean we can pull others down. It just simply means, that people should try and compliment someone at least once every day. Everyone should be away of this subject and be willing to learn more about this topic. This is recurring problem in everyday life, and everyone should be at least a little conscious about it.
Kristina was a normal girl just like all of us fun, outgoing, and most of all was describe as a social butterfly. Her eating disorder started in fifth grade. She was diagnosed with anorexia. Though she got better and thought she was over it, when she was thirteen a couple months before eighth graduation she started to have symptoms again. Most of her freshman year was spent in a hospital. She was in the process of getting better. This eating disorder completely destroyed her and who she was. She was so obsessed with being a 10/10 that she took away from who she really was. This aspect of “perfect” consumes us all. Nobody is perfect, but as Kristina went through recovery she discovered that she was beautiful inside and out. She became successful going to Harvard. Accomplishing everything she wants. She wants any girl to know that you are all beautiful, and if this happens you can overcome it. Project Heal is a great organization to help teenage girls. Be able to read stories and see how girls just like them were able to survive something horrible.
Project Heal is an organization that helps boys and girls just like yourselves express what situation you went through. Then other people who are going through the same thing can read about the problem, and see how you overcame it or how to get help. They also provide support to anyone who needs this. This is a great organization that shows support and helpfulness to anyone going through eating disorders.
After reading, this shows the importance of being nice to people no matter how you think of them. One small action or one small phrase can really affect how someone sees him or herself. Eating disorders are a horrible thing. Going to school and feeling the need to look a certain way, act a certain way, and come off a certain way is not how someone should feel. Everybody should be able to be themselves no matter what. Make a point each and everyday to be nice, and maybe even give someone a compliment. Then we can hopefully decrease the amount of eating disorders.
