ADHD
Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) is a real disorder that affects over 11% of children. There are many different symptoms of ADHD, such as limited attention, aggression, repetition of words persistently, forgetfulness, and many more. There are no treatments for ADHD, but there are medicines to help people from noticing the symptoms. Some of the medicines include methylphenidate (Concerta) and the most known amphetamine (Adderall). All of this medicine helps to conceal the symptoms, but they can't get rid of them.
Adam Levine has talked a lot about his ADHD. In Attitude, a magazine that helps people with ADHD, Levine wrote his own personal account of having ADHD. Levine struggled with ADHD throughout his childhood and continues to suffer today. He said it was always hard for him to sit down, focus, and get school work done. He has worked with his doctor and his family to create a treatment plan that would work for him. He remembers one time as an adult having a lot of ideas for songs but not being able to put any one of them on paper. Levine has been medically diagnosed with ADHD since he was young, but he has learned to live with it. He says this, “Remember that you are not alone. There are others going through the same thing.”
There are many organizations that help people with ADHD. Children and Adults with ADHD (CHADD) is an organization that is focused on helping anybody that has ADHD or is a parent of a child having ADHD. CHADD is a national nonprofit organization based in Maryland. CHADD believes in their mission statement of “CHADD improves the lives of people affected by ADHD”. There are many ways to help organizations like CHADD. One way is by starting a support group for people with ADHD or for the parents of ADHD children. Another way of helping is simply donating to CHADD. This will help them keep their website up and running and help their cause.
ADHD is a real disease and it has real symptoms. By helping organizations like CHADD, people are able to help inform people about the severity of ADHD. Anybody with ADHD,remember one thing that Adam Levine said “Remember that you are not alone. There are others going through the same thing.”
